Hello,

I recently built a really nice machine based on the Asus A8N SLI Deluxe
motherboard. I added an AMD 64 Athlon X2 CPU and Windows XP 64 bit. This
latter one probably being the cause of my problem but there may be a simple
solution out there that I don't know about. So here's the problem: this
motherboard comes with a USB/MIDI attachment that has a game port on it (2
USB ports and 1 MIDI/Game port). I installed the attachment and connected
an old MS sidewinder joystick to the gameport but the system does not seem
to recognize it. I looked at the device manager and it says that no drivers
are installed for this device. I downloaded the latest Realtek drivers from
the ASUS website but no luck there either. Does anyone know if there are
drivers out there that would allow me to use my old joystick? If not, I
guess I'll have to get a USB joystick.

Thanks,

D. Castano

Microsoft Sidewinder is not supported under Windows XP Professional x64, you
can join the list of folks who are just as disappointed as you will be:

In addition to what Andre said, there is very little support for any USB
devices, so make sure BEFORE you buy that it has a 64-bit driver.

Thanks John and Andre for your answers. I got a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro
Twist Handle USB Joystick that was recognized right away. No setup was
necessary, not even calibration was required. At least for my needs this
will do.

Thanks.

Hi, D.

I made a comment about this, last night. I praised Microsoft in quite a
strong language. Apparantly, it was censored and did not appear. I am not a
rebell - I don't have to show off hear if it is non-popular. If you'd like
to see it I can re-direct it to your mail. . . ?

Nice to hear back on working products. Logitech seems to be doing a good
job with their hardware. Microsoft hardware, forget it.

Glad you got an alternative thats working just fine, like John said it seems
that Logitech is leading in hardware support for x64 and I want to encourage
them to keep it up.
