Formatting caused a small problem

After formatting my pc yesterday, the icons lined up along the left side of
my screen. I right-click on my desktop and "Arrange Icons by" opened. I
then checked Arrange icons by "Auto Arrange" but they remain lined up along
the left side of my screen. When I move an icon, it immeditely goes to the
left side of the screen.

I tried Arrange Icons According to Grid to see if it would break the cycle,
but it didn't.

Also, in the Arrange Icons By, the top half of choices lists Names, Size,
Type, Modified. The default, "Type" was checked. I can uncheck it without
choosing anohter one.

I suppose you really do not intend to write a blog here to let everyone know
of your computer adventures but to find out how to fix something. Alas, you
don't actually get around to asking a direct question.

My best guess is that you want to be able to arrange icons on the desktop
and have them stay the way that you put them. If so, right mouse click on a
empty spot on the desktop and turn off auto-arrange.

The best approach is to just to TOTALLY IGNORE any and all
posts by Denise!!!

She has absolutely no idea where she has been and definitely
has no idea where she wants to go. I would guess the Geek
forum she was haunting must have finally had all they could
stomach!

She was a REAL P.I.T.A. here several months ago!!!

I see that you understood my problem but in stead of giving me the answer,
you felt it necessary to insult me first. I went to Geeks To Go and they not
only understood my post but gave me a direct answer to solve my problem.
Without insults . . . can you imagine that?!?

P.S. In the event that you would respond to my answer, I didn't check the
box "Notify me of replies."

Yes, ignore me . . . if that's what this forum is all about. If you can't
handle a debate, you don't know your stuff.

I built my system . . . it was a little more than plug-and-play for me, but
there you have it. My "blog" was interpreted by others, your friend
included, so it was understood by someone who had just a little less
arrogance, a little more desire to help someone and more smarts than you.

P.S. I will not be checking the box "Notify me of replies," not because of
your continuing rude and crude responses that I remember receiving from the
past (present experience included), but because I don't want to deal with
