    - Win XP 64 bit upgrade program question Hi, just wondering. I did the microsoft "Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Technology Advancement Program" way back in July and haven't received my software yet. Last email I got from them was that it was shipped. That email also contain a weird tracking number like this, W??????????? (where the ? = number) which I cannot determine which courier company was used to shipped it. I've been sending my inquiries to ms64bitupgrade@productorder.com but I don't get any response anymore. I know my credit card was already charged but I could not find the credit card statement anymore. Just wondering, can someone give the phone number that appear on the statement? Or if anyone have any number I can call regarding this program by microsoft. I talked to microsoft customer service yesterday and I was told that they don't have anything to do with this exchange program so they cannot help me.     - No intellipoint/type x64 drivers for Microsoft keyboard mouse???? I just installed windows xp pro x64 edition on my new system. I noticed from many discussion forums there is a big problem with drivers. But why can I not find any 64 bit compatible drivers for Microsoft products like a mouse or a brand new natural multimedia keyboard?? I downloaded the most recent ones but i still get an error during installation: Setup cannot continue..... software version is not supported on 64 bit Operating System.... This cannot be true,..... Microsoft will not deliver 64 bit drivers for their own products?? Or did I missed something, is there a place where I can find them?     - Windows XP Prof on EM64T based Machine Hi, Help on this friends, I am really confused. I am planning to buy a PC and I wanted to know about the software that I could install on the 64 bit computing processor. I wanted to know if I could install all the previous softwares like Windows XP Prof & related softwares like games (delta force, MS Flight Sim etc) and also applications like Visual Studio 2005 on the machine without any problems. Or do I need to install the Windows XP Prof 64 edition only of the OS and applications similarly may not be installed which I could do earlier.     - Outlook Express and Explorer64 When I go to a website from an address within an Outlook Express post, Explorer 64-bit defaults as the Browser.     - Updates fail to install I am running x64 with Office 2003 and in the latest batch of updates, I have received 2 whcih 'fail to install', but keep popping up as updates ready to install.     - install w/o floppy? I am trying to install x64 on a system with SATA/RAID and no internal floppy drive. I am currently running SuSE 10.0 and am trying to swictch to x64. I've bought an external floppy drive, but after the F6 pressing etc, the installation manager does not look for the diskette in the external drive.     - Dual Boot Problems Again. Followuing on from an earlier post and a successful answer I am having issues again. I recently did a rebuild of the boot record on my machine as it didnt detect the two OS's. Windows 2000 on drive C: , Windows XP 64 bit on drive D:, The rebuild of the mbr seems to have cured it for the time being however on Christmas day of all days i turned the machine on and and get a message similar to the following. "Windows 2000 could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the Windows 2000(TM) documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information. " The drive that the 2000 OS is on is brand new and although I cannot rule out it being faulty but was looking for other answers before formatting the drive again. I have the windows 2000 boot disk can I rebuild using these.     - Cannot get my Matrox P650 card seen in XP 64. I have a dual boot system consisting of XP Pro 32 and XP Pro 64 bit. Theres are installed on their own partitions on one drive. I have the monitor plugged into the Matrox card but all that is identified in T. Manager is a generic Matrox low spec card. This is in all probibility the on board card.     - I May Have Been Had on an XP x64 License After the OEM XP x64 disk I had originally purchased from Directron was damaged during a reinstall (due to my own carelessness), I needed to purchase a new license. I found an "OEM" disk listed at 9software.com in Hampton, VA for $119.00. I received the disk today, but the disk is labeled: "Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (Volume License Product Key Required). "May 2005 Systems "Windows Client: Business. "All use subject to volume license agreement. Do not make illegal copies of this disk. Not for Retail or OEM Distribution. Not for Resale." So, it looks like I've been had.     - windows server 2003 (64 bits) and cdrom.sys Several weeks ago, my windows 2003 server system that was running without any problems since at least 1 year, stopped seeing the cdrom (dvd) drives, BOTH of them. At first it was just a nuisance, but it would not go away. I bought new DVD drives, but the problem persisted. Frustrated, I decided to re-install. I introduced the windows 2003 64 bit server CDROM and booted from it. The re-installation went OK, it started copying the files from the DVDROM in the hard drive, then rebooted. When it rebooted, the setup program told me: "Setup continues", and then it crashed because "There is no CDROM installed. Can't continue" Both DVD drives are seen (in the same machine) by the other systems installed: Windows Server 2003 32 bits sees both DVD drives. The same for windows XP 32 bits The same for linux (64 bits) I can boot from the DVD without any problem. WHAT IS GOING ON?     - Can't get x64 to work on Dual with Win2K (NTOSKRNL) I was previously running dual boot with Win2K and WinXP SP1 on two separate primary partitions (C and F respectively). After getting XP x64 I decided to nuke my XPSP1 since I wasn't really using it and install x64 on the old XPSP1 partition. So I booted from the x64 CD, formatted the old XPSP1 partition, and installed x64. While copying files, I got an error, something about "NTOSKRNL.EXE is missing or corrupt. Please reinstall this file". The installation continued after that and everything seemed fine until the initial boot, and then I got the same error. So I did what the message says and look for that file, finding it in the AMD64 folder on the CD. I then use the expand command to extract that file into the windows\system32 folder on the x64 partition (I've booted into the Win2k partition to do this ofcourse).     - MP3 encoder doesn't go beyond 56kbps I use VirtualDub to encode a movie, and obviously I want to encode the audio track with MP3. But the builtin codec won't go beyond 56kbps. I installed WMP10 because I know for a fact that it can rip music from CD to 192kbps MP3 without extra software (yes, I've seen it work) and many people commenting on this problem say you need WMP10, so I installed it.     - USB harddisk clogs I have a Toshiba 40GB 4200rpm harddisk connected externally via USB 2.0. Sometimes when writing a medium-sized file to it (say, 150MB) the write happened at too high a speed. That sounds promising, but it isn't :) Usually the write is a copy from my internal harddisk to the USB harddisk. The internal harddisk is obviously a magnitude faster, and it seems to me the write happens at the speed of the internal harddisk. Between 50 and 70 MB per second. The problem is that the OS reports the write as being done, but the USB disk is still physically writing out the file. I think what happens is that some kind of (very large) write cache is being filled up and eventually flushed as it's no longer being appended to. On it's own, this is not that big a problem. The problem with this "cache" is that so long as this "cache" is being flushed after the file copy has been completed, every and all access to the USB disk is being blocked (postponed to when the "cache flush" is complete, to be exact). Now, I know harddisks can have an OS-level write cache in Windows, but I also know that for USB Mass Storage devices, this cache is disabled by default. I also know that I didn't touch that setting (witnessed by the fact that the drive's policy is set to "Optimize for quick removal", so no OS-level write cache, iinm).     - Pop Up Folder Descriptions in Explorer I'm trying to load a bunch of my CD on to my computer for use with a MP3 player. I load the CD's OK. But when I go into Windows Explorer and put the cursor over the file my all is get is "MP3 File" and "3.23mb". If I load the same CD on my other computer with XP Pro (32 Bit), when I put the cursor on the file I get, Song Title, Artist, Album Name, Track Number, Size, Year. I have tried the same software on both computer, iTunes 6.0.1 and Exact Audio Copy with LAME. The file are fine just not all the information is there on the x64 OS machine.     - XP 64 freezes shortly after "loading preferences" I'm trying to confirm that my ultra-mega Win-XP 64-bit PC; 1. GigaByte 955-Royale 64-bit motherboard 2. 3.24 GHz 64-bit Intel dual-core Pentium-D 3. Maxtor 300 Gb SATA hard drive 4. 1 Gb Kingston DDR RAM stick 5. ATI XL-800 64-bit AGP card 6. 27" Viewsonic HDTV monitor 7. Logitech Optical / Cordless mouse / keyboard 8. Logitech 280-watt 5.1 Dolby THX (OK, now I'm just bragging!) has a virus-related problem and is not suffering from a hardware-related failure. The system has been running fine since its birth in mid-July 2005. The PC freezes after I boot-up Win-XP 64-bit; a few seconds after my apps (Avast 64-bit AV, MS-Outlook 2003, etc.) begin to pre-load. I tried to repair Windows with the CD, but the installation's repair process freezes-up during the portion that says "Windows will finish installing in 37 minutes." I ran check CHKDSK /R (twice) from the CD's recovery console: All was well. I figured if there was a memory (stick) issue, it might have been reported. I also figured, if the memory-stick was defective, the PC would have froze during the 90-120 minute CHKDSK /R process; but it didn't. Based upon those observations, I'm thinking a stinking virus(that Avast didn't catch)!!! The ultimate question is; "Where is the 64-bit bootable CD that scans my BIOS and hard drive without my potentially corrupt Win-XP 64-bit OS being booted??? After-all; isn't that the most effective way to scan; without the primary (potentially infected) OS being booted??? If this is not (yet) an FAQ, I'm sure it soon will be!!! I'd like to hear your thoughts (and reccomendations). Meanwhile, I'll be trying "system restore" after I read the few articles written about some of the caveats. Thanx! Hadn't tried yet the fireware connector on my mobo (ASUS A8N-SLI).
Yesterday I plugged my 4 year old JVC Digital mini DV camera to my PC.
After a couple of secs WinXP x64 detected it properly.
I fired up Nero Vision and managed to burn the tape on a DVD with a just a
few clicks.
Note that the video/audio capture occurs in real time.
Just make sure your wife doesn't wanna go shopping with you in the middle of
the processing of that precious 1 hour long video!
