    - cd in 16 bit memory not running I have a cd rom that is really old, and I tried to run it, but nothing happened when I put it in the cd drive. I know that xp does not run 16-bit memory, but I was wondering if there is a downloadable thing that would allow me to run the disc.     - Migrating from XP x64 to Vista Ultimate 64-bit Hi Helpful Group! :-) I thought I'd make a *positive* post for a change. I actually got something to work! I migrated my system from XP Professional x64 to Vista Ultimate 64- bit. I expected a nightmare, as I had a relatively old Tyan K8WE (S2895) motherboard and I was using Opteron 270 CPUs. I also had a beta driver and BIOS for my AMCC 3ware 9550SX SATA2 RAID card. I can not say it was easy, as it took me several nights of being up until 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. to get the old machine ready, but the actually *install* of Vista was almost painless. It seemed as if it took less than one hour. I have then spent several days reinstalling software. The machine, of course, runs *worse,* but I now have more software options. Apple iTunes, for example, correctly recognizes and installs on my operating system. I have a long ways to go, but I wanted to encourage others to make the switch *if* they need to.     - Default Icons for htm & mht files in Vista x64 I installed Vista x64 Ultimate over the weekend, and I notice that my icons for htm and mht files are the default "blank" ones that are used for unknown file types rather than the normal IE icons. In searching the web, someone mentioned such a problem after installing Office 2007, which I also have. I've tried changing the htmfiles default icon in the registry, but it didn't have any effect. I cant seem to get the cd rom to read the cd on boot. i adjusted the boot sequence with cd rom boot first. i have zeroed out my 300gb sata hard drive. i run windows xp 32 fine and I dont want a dual boot.     - Odd display problem - desktop bigger then monitor Here is an odd problem - I'm using an SIS mother board and an SIS chipset. The monitor is a Sony HMD1240. If I put the video into any mode > 1024x768, the desktop will become larger then the monitor, and as I move my mouse around, the desktop will scroll back and forth. My lap does this if I select a resolution bigger then what the screen can display, but in this case the monitor can easily handle 1280x1024.     - Command Prompt Changes While at the command prompt in VISTA I am unable to change the prompt from C:\windows\sysWOW64 to C:\windows\vbscript.dll to allow installation of software for the Blackberry to sync.     - Strange performance issue on 2003 X64 Hi all, I met a strange performance issue on Windows 2003 Enterprise X64 Edition with SP2 / Intel Xeon 3G(4chips * 4cores/chip) . On the server, there is a j2ee containner with some applications. A simple jsp code to query/insert/update some tables after the client clicked the submit. The clients complained that this update is slowly. I did a test on both the server and another pc. The result is very strange: From the server, the code executed costing 400ms, while 5+ seconds from PCs! Any ideas? The SNP is disiabled.     - Running SunxVM VirtualBox in Vista 64 I'm Running Vista 64 Ultimate SP1 applied Problem: I loaded SunxVM Virtual box. I then loaded Xp32 via the XP32 cd (everything seems to be working as I am connected to the internet) I now want to copy SP3 for Xp32 from my cd rom drive I can "see"the SP3 file,but when I try to copy it I get an error box stating the "parameter is incorrect" How do I correct this so I can copy a file from the cd rom?     - Long pause before system starts normally... Hello, Recently my pc crashed all of a sudden and now my pc boots normally, windows loads fine but when it actually starts up, like the desktop and startup apps etc, it gives my a long pause of about ~40 seconds with nothing but a light aqua screen and the mouse pointer and only after this pause it starts to load fine. I have tried the K-Lite and Vista Codec Package x64, but it keeps saying it cannot play the DVD maybe try reducing the screen resolution (which doesn't help).     - NAS access in XP64 I have just added a 1TB WesternDigital MyBook World Edition to the house network, the XP 32 bit machine have no problem accessing this device via \\name\\directory but my own XP64 machine refuses to connect using this method or the IP address. I can access the configuration Wizard via IE7 with no problem using the IP. I have also noticed the other machines on the net (same workgroup) do not appear in my network.     - Small problems after SP1 install Hello all: My pc is working great with Vista Ultimate 64 bit but I have two minor problems that I think may be related to the SP1 update. I used the Microsoft SP1 Update CD rather than download on a slow 56k connection and the install went fine. Since the install of SP1 I have occasionally noticed intermittant very, very brief freezes of live tv in Media Center. It isn't really a problem, more just an annoyance. Looking back thru my Windows Updates I noticed an Intel Graphics Media driver was installed after SP1. The date on the driver update was Feb., 2008. There are no graphics updates later than Jan.27, 2008 on the Intel site for my board so I had went ahead and let Microsoft update the drivers. Is it possible that Microsoft Update would have a post SP1 Intel Graphics driver update before it is listed on the Intel support site? I am thinking I should uninstall the graphics in device mgr and re-install the latest drivers from the Intel site to see if that cures the video freeze problem. Would this be a likely solution? The other problem I'm having is that when I try to manually download Media Center Guide updates I frequently get an almost immediate notification that the Guide update is complete even though when I hold the cursor over the download icon it never goes past 0% complete. If I then try to download the guide again, most times it goes thru the complete lengthy update correctly. This happens on 2 64-bit pcs with Vista SP1 and 1 32-bit pc with XP Media Center 2005. This has only been occurring for the last month or so. I tried going thru the complete Media Center set-up on all thru pc's again and the problem still occurs.
