Creativelabs has done a lousy job providing good drivers for their soundcards.
I have been successfully using modded drivers taken from the Vista forums at
Creative for many months.
The last one is really something.
For those who own the lowly Audigy Value SE/LS & SB Live 24bit (like me!)
this set of drivers converts them to X-Fi Xtremes.
http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=Vista&message.id=29663
Hard to believe but I installed them a couple of hours ago and it has
supported the heavy gaming tasks imposed by my sons and my tests with Dolby
5.1 sound.

Enjoy!

P.S.: I do love those rich bass sounds that now come from the subwoofer when
listening to hard rock!

Hmm - is there something that will make my Audigy 2 play EAX on the XP you
think?

Strangly enough, I've all but stopped listening to music, but Colin McRae
would have a chance to unfold.

Tony,
I can only suggest you checking the Creativelabs forums here:
http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs?category.id=productboards
The Vista sub-forum is excellent.
There is the workaround (driver) for using the old joystick gameport in
Vista x86.

Tony,
The last release for Audigy 2 (XP) was on Oct 2006 and can be found here
http://asia.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?MainCategory=1&nRegionFK=&nCountryFK=&nLanguageFK=&sOSName=Windows+XP&region=2&Product_Name=Audigy+2&Product_ID=149&modelnumber=&driverlang=1033&OS=10&drivertype=0&x=27&y=6
Don't know about EAX support for those drivers.

Thanks, Carlos. I will check it out while keeping up the healthy scepticism.
I do believe it would require help from it's BIOS to do that?

Tony,
My memory is a little weak on EAX.
I can recall that there were many flavours (versions) like EAX, EAX 2.0 and
so on.
All of them required some hardware support on the sound board.
I am almost convinced that your Audigy 2 must have EAX hardware support.
EAX is dead now with the recent audio subsystem changes in Vista.
Creative released an EAX workaround for older games in Vista and high-end
cards (like yours) called "Alchemy".
Even weaker is my memory now when I try to remember the new nickname in
Vista for those 3D audio effects things.
:)

Re: OT - Excellent unofficial drivers for SoundBlaster in Vista x6 by Tony

My own memory is not much better, I'm afraid. I bought that card [after]
installing ColinMcRae, under the firm belief that EAX was supported. As it
turned out, this was 'yet-another-instance-of-you
must-remember-the-entire-model-and-type-designation' before handing over
your money. The Card was the Audigy 2 - and I wanted the Audigy 2 ZS or NX -
so, no EAX!

I know there is not much future to back up the technology now, that's why I
thought it sounded interesting with those new drivers - I don't want to buy
that support today, but since it isn't going anywhere - as a technology - I
wouldn't mind using it if it was suddenly supported by an update!

What you refer to about Vista must be a part of DX10, I suppose?

Tony,
The new nickname is "OpenAL".
And I just don't know anything else about it, whether DirectXsomething or
