    - Unable to get wireless communications to work Have notebook equipped with MiniPCI wireless network card. The card has both 802.11 g and bluetooth capabilities. The status of the 802.11 g connection is Sent 917, Received 17, MPS 1.0. I have never been able to get Blue tooth to work. After lengthy discussions with manufacturer the decission was return the card, an maybe that is not the right decission, but even so I can't uninstall it. When I remove the card the notebook will not boot. When I disable wireless in the BIOS Device Manager sees the card. When I uninstalled the card in Device Manager and inserted an 80.11 g PC Wireless Adapter in the PCMCIA slot the adapter was discovered, but when I specify the location of the install routine, instead of running the install routine I get an eror message saying the Network Controller can not found. Although the problem with the card is probably not caused by Windows I should be able to disable the card or run a network card in the PCMCIA slot with it enabled, and the crazy thing is two days ago I did. I inserted the a 2wire 802.11 PC Wireless Wireless Adapter in this notebook and it ran beautifully. Then I tried to get A Bluetooth dongel to work and deleted some software. I could not get Bluetooth to work and now I can't get WiFi to work either. When I insert the Wireless adapter in the PCMCIA slot the device is discovere though it does say USB device.     - Memory could not be read Every time I close a programme (most commonly IE7.0, Symantec Live Update, Windows Help, Word, but also others) I get error messages lik this (note that the addresses change every time): The instruction at 0x0574be5e0 referenced at "0x00000ba0". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program I have checked my laptop for viruses (Norton Antivirus 2007, Spyboot Seacrh and Destroy, CCleaner) and the machine is now clean. I have also cleaned the windows registry (Registry Cleaner & CCleaner), which is now fine. I have run checkdisk and all is fine. Last I have checked the PC's RAM with Microsoft's Windows Memory Diagnostic, which reported no problems. My PC is a Dell Latitude D82O, Intel Centrino Duo, with 2.0GB-533Mhz DDR2 SDRAM memory (2X1024MB). Other than these annoying error message boxes, the PC works great.     - Vista x64 CD making coaster machine CD burning under vista broken? I am trying to burn a CD under windows Vista x64 this is on a completely fresh clean install of vista to rule out any other conflicts. Reguardless of the type of burn I try to do Mastered, etc... I have the same net result. The CD go through all the motions of burning and when it is complete, I am informed that it was burnt sucesfully. If I subsequently try to read the CD Vista asks me if I want to format the CD, almost as if it is trying to treat a CD as an RW. I then tried loading Nero on the machine as I heard this would solve this issue, however same result, Nero completes informing me that the CD was sucessfully burnt, and ejects the CD. If I then re-insert it Vista asks if I want to format it. The machine can read DVD's and CD's I have created on another machine under XP. It can also read CD's created on this machine when it was XP.     - Unistalled Vista 64bit reinstalled xp pro 64 bit I built my system in January and had a flawless install of every software and driver I have, my OS was XP PRO 64bit. My so-called upgrade copy of vista finally showed up so I installed it. Unfortunately I had to start clean because it was not an upgrade like the 32 bit was. I could not make any of my software work except for office pro 2007. Go figure. I could not use any of my Cad or sign design software. I got errors stating that I had a valid image, but is for a machine other than the current machine. SO, fed up with Vista I did another clean install back to XP PRO 64bit. Now I have the same problems. My question is, Did Vista modify my BIOS, or did it leave something on my hard disk. I figure a clean install should be just that. I am no better now than when I had vista installed. I was wondering If others had the same problem. If so what you did to correct it.     - Triple boot: XP 32-bit, Vista 32- & 64-bit? Hello All, I currenlty have a dual boot system with XP Pro 32-bit and Vista Ultimate 32-bit. I have 23 days left on the Vista OS before I need to activate or rearm. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with triple-booting with XP Pro 32-bit, Vista 32-bit and Vista 64-bit. Obviously, I would not activate either Vista installation until I made a decision as to what is best for my situation, but I am concerned about booting difficulties, loss of restore points and especially whether using the disk management tools with Vista (i.e., partition manager) will destroy my partitions when creating a new partition for the Vista 64-bit.     - Browsing network with XP x64 SP2 Ever since I installed SP2 for XP x64 I have had trouble browsing network shares. I have shares hosted using Windows 2003 SBS, XP x64, and XP x86. No matter what comptuer I try to access the window will lock up anywhere between 5 and 30 seconds from me browsing to that computer.     - error copying file or folder Hello, I hope someone can help me. I donâ??t understand why I keep seeing this every time I try to move a file larger than 3.5GB. to my external drive. The external drive is a 400GB drive and is showing more than enough space available. I make lots of instructional movies for educational purposes and need to store them effectively. My laptop is running XP pro with a 64 bit processor and 2GB of ram but only has a 120GB hard drive and so I must keep it cleared. Is there something I am not considering?     - System restore problem When I untick the 'switching off' box in system restore and then select Apply, no matter what I do, I get the following msg: System Restore encountered an error trying to enable/disable one or more drives. Re-start and try again. This I try and get back to square one with the disable sys restore box automatically ticked. The Settings box is greyed-out at all times. A couple of days ago I installed SP2 and the corresponding "incremental SP2" MUI.     - Browser stops working but Internet still connected I'm having this problem on a Vista 64 bit machine, but it also happens on a machine using plain old 32-bit XP (though the processor is a single core, AMD 64-bit). I sometimes have problems connecting to websites using the browser. But at the same time, I can still check email and participate in NGs (as I am now). I can download data from financial institutions using Quicken. Instant messenger programs work. So, while the browser has trouble connecting, the Internet connection is obviously still there and working because these other programs show that to be the case. I tried installing the Opera browser, and it can't connect either during these periods either. So it's not just an IE problem. Both the Vista 64 and the XP 32 machines go through the same DSL modem. The Vista machine is connected wirelessly to the DSL modem. Both are using IE7. The Vista machine is using the version that came on the Vista Ultimate 64-bit OEM disk. The 32-bit machine is using a version I downloaded several months earlier. While I was in the process of writing this, a box popped up in the corner of my screen telling me that Avast AV has been updated. Usually that box pops up at bootup. But just now the machine had been on for several minutes when it popped up. Once that happened, I figured whatever had been the problem had ended, so I fired up Opera and it connected. (Before anyone says the problem was caused by the AV update, I can assure you that's not the case. The problem happens on two machines and I have that AV only loaded on one. I've also had the AV update on bootup, but then have this connectivity problem show up later.) Two more things: 1) When this problem happens, if I put my cursor over the internet connection icon in the system tray (on the Vista machine), it will show the connection and say "local access only." When I'm not having problems with the browser, it will show "Local and Internet." 2) When this problem occurs, I usually can still access my company's email website. I'm not sure, but I assume my company's email server is in the same city as my home, which is why I can access it. But I can't access any other internet sites. So, I guess my questions are: 1) What is "local access only"? Is it a problem with my ISP? With my DSL modem? 2) And why, when in "local access" mode, can I still get stuff from non-local sources while using Windows Mail, Quicken and instant messenger?     - 64bit print server - no 64bit drivers We have a '03 64bit print server and am trying to add a Toshiba eStudio 35 network printer to the server. There are no 64bit drivers available from Toshiba yet. I tried installing the 32bit drivers via the '03 server mmc and only selecting the 32bit XP, 2000, NT option. I get a "Selected driver must be installed remotely from an x86 Windows XP, 2000, or 2003 Server" at the end of the wizard. All I want to do is share the printer via AD and allow the clients to download the drivers. Is this possible and if so how? Thanks in advance! I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition - SP2 in a Computer that has a IDE disk with the Operating System and 8 SATAII disks as individual units (that is to say, they are'nt in RAID).     - Realtek HD Audio Hi People, I was able to get the card to send audio out the Coaxial SPDIF (Digital) port and also the 3.5 mm jacks (Analog) using Windows Media Center 2005 but now since upgrading to 64-bit Vista Ultimate it seems to be one or the other. I need both as the audio to my home theatre is digital where the audio to the rest of my house is analog.     - Remote Desktop to the Server a crawl after Windows 2003 SP2 Instal Symptoms: After installing Windows 2003 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise 64-Bit Edition, remote desktop to the server is at a crawl. Once connected the login screen moves extremely slow. It begins painting the display very slowly. One you login successfully it ends up locking up or disconnecting. Once I uninstalled SP2, using Remote Desktop works perfect. We just got 3 new 64 Bit servers and had this issue with all 3 after installing SP2. On one of the machines I installed a Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise 32-Bit Edition and installed Windows 2003 SP2 and remoted desktop works great. I believe to have narrowed the issue done to installing SP2 on the 64 bit edition of Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise. I am pretty sure this is a bug after several days of troubleshooting.     - 32-bit Progam Memory Access on 64-bit Vista Adobe just released a statement about their new CS3 programs and Vista 64-bit. They state that the programs run fine on Vista 64-bit as 32-bit programs and that each program can access up to 3 GB of RAM. My computer has 8 GB of RAM.     - x64 Vista Bluescreen / Total Freeze Hi all, A rather serious problem it would seem. I just got a WD myBook 500 gig external USB2 hd and am trying to back up some files from my desktop with it. I already backed up my laptop no problem, it's running XP, yet every time I try and copy over a large amount of files (say, 100 gigs) or reformat the external HD (not quick, but total reformat) my computer either bluescreens or totally freezes. What's odd is that i can transfer say 30 gigs of data ok but after that it dies. I'm truly stumped here and no one else seems to be having this problem so please please help.     - NTBackup On my x64 2003 server I have used ntbackup to backup a large number of files over the network to this computer.     - Deleting a partition Hi, When I installed Windows X64, I partitioned my hard drive so that it would have 3 partitions. I now want to delete one of the partitions. I did a Microsoft search and found that I needed to go into Disk Management, right click on the partition, and click delete. I did that but it didn't remove the partition. It's still there but can't be accessed. My computer consists of my C drive where all of my programs are located. The D drive contains files that I use. The E drive was empty and I couldn't fine a use for it, so I want to add D and E to make 1 large partition and not to touch the C drive. I've already backed up everything that's on the D drive.     - 32 bit apps crash right when opened? I just did a clean install of Vista Ultimate RTM x64 3 days ago. Everything worked fine for the first 2-2 and 1/2 days, but after a restart, things started to get weird. Everytime I launch a 32 bit app (IE x64 works, but IE 32 bit does not, as an example.) I have no idea why it would all of a sudden start doing this, I haven't made any changes to the system, it just started after a reboot.     - Vista 64 Freezes I put together a new PC. AMD Athlon 64 3500+, BIOSTAR GeForce6100-M9 mother board. 1 GB ram Vista 64 ver 6.0.6000 . Vista loaded fine. After it was installed I tried playing Spider Solitaire. It worked for 2 or 3 minutes and then the system froze. I had to cycle the power to get it back up. Device manager says everything is OK. The system can run for hours and then freeze or sometimes it freezes almost immediatly. It freezes more often when I play spider. What can I do to trouble shoot this. Or am I just out of luck.     - Vista drive capacity limit Hello, I recently installed Vista Business x64 bit. The hardware is 2 x 160GB Seagate Barracuda on Raid 1 for the OS and 8 x 500GB Seagate Barracuda on Raid 5 via Highpoint 2320 raid card. Anyhow, Vista successfully installed on the 160GB drive. However, when I go to disk management to format the 3.5 terabytes (8 x 500GB) Vista will only see 2 terabytes. I can see the 1.5 terabytes left over but it is grayed out and not accessible. This box is my media file server. What is the drive capacity of Vista? Is it 2 terabytes? I find this hard to believe!
