SBS2003 and Outlook 2003
i have tried to connect outlook to the exchange server in the SBS enviroment
and it will not update all of the folders, nor let me have any new mail as it
arrives. is this communication issue a common problem and does anyone know a
workaround if it is? (i have tried switching between cached and not cached
and it appears to have no difference in the connection.) Tag: Creative Webcam Instant works great in XP x64 Tag: 19152

creating an F6 RAID disk question.
I've been trying, in vain, to install Win x64 on my PC. once windows is
installed I go into the trap: 0x0000007B reboot problem. They only way I
have gotten XP x64 to install is by disabling my RAID, which is not an option
for me.
From what I have read, this is a problem with the F6 drivers I have been
using.
I'm running a Gigabyte k8n pro-SLI motherboard using version 4.84 of the
nvidia raid bios. I have tried using the F6 driver on gigabytes web page,
but that doesn't help.
I want to try to download the latest drivers directly from NVidia, but, they
don't have a downloadable F6 package, but, I believe it may be possible to
create a disk by copying the relevant files to a floppy. The only problem
is, I have no idea what files to copy and what, if any, directories should be
on the floppy.
Is there anyone here that can enlightent me? or at least point me in the
right direction?
I'm using the full release of X64 on CD (sent to me by MS from the upgrade
from XP professional promotion)
My hardware is:
Gigabyte k8n pro-SLI motherboard running the version 5 bios and 4.84 raid
bios.
2 GB of RAM
AMD x2 4400+ processor
a pair of Western Digital 120GB hard drives (striped)
The raid currently has two partitions on it. 180GB is for my current
install of Win XP pro and 60gb is for the X64 install.

Reboot and reactivate
On x64, I recently uninstalled a piece of software ( I don't remember
exactly what it was, but I remember it was not a Microsoft product) and,
after the requested reboot, a screen came up that said something to the
effect that there had been significant changes to my system and I had 3 days
to activate it. The system had been activated, and up and running for about
30 days with no problem. I had to call Microsoft to reactivate, as it had
already been activated before on the same system.
My question now is, I need to do a repair install, as I seem to have munged
up something to do with password protection on resume from screensaver. When
I do the repair install, will I have to re-activate again? Is there
something I can back up to avoid having to do this?
Thanks,

Repair Trial x64 SP1 to full version
Hi Everyone,
I understand that I can do a repair on my trial version to update the
license to the full version. But, what if I have SP1 and other updates
installed on the trial version? I understand that I probably will have
to reinstall these following the repair. But, do I have to remove them
first? Will the repair reset the installed chipset system drivers, etc
???

RAID in XP 64
My current system has 3 IDE hard drives with 6 partitions with a dual XP 32 &
XP 64 boot (non RAID). One of my IDE hard drives is on it's last leg so I
bit the bullet an purchased two 160GB SATA2 hard drives. I want to stripe
the 2 hard drives for MAX game performance. Will I lose speed if I partition
into two 160 GB hard drives since the head must move to the different
partitions (I read that on another web site)?
Please give me feedabck on what the ideal situation for speed would be. I
want fast load times.... Don't care about backing up data (no mirror)....
I would like to keep my dual boot XP32 & XP 64 but I will sacrifice one
operating system if I must to keep the load times down.

Nero 7 doesnt uninstall on Win x64
Well I got my first BSOD in years using Nero 7. So I figured I'd
uninstall it and load Roxio 8 for a change. I know its hard to belive
since Roxio EZ-CD was so bad for years. Anyway I digress.
When I went to uninstall Nero 7 I recieved the following message
'Error applying transform. Verify that the specified transform paths
are valid'. Obviously Nero doesnt recogonize or like the \program
files (x86)\ directory even though it installed into it. It didn't
even ask me where I wanted to load the files, it just automatically
defaulted to c:\. I eventually had to delete the Nero folder and clean
out the registry with TweakNow Reg Cleaner 2.6.0 which supposedly
supports x64. Yes I know that using a reg cleaner is a bad idea but
time is not in abundance for me right now.
Well to make a long story short Roxio 8 is up and running well on my
system. Don't know if I'll run into the same problems if I have to
uninstall it.
Just a heads up!

Hi. I can't surf using Internet Explorer (32-bit) but the 64-bit one works

I tried installing Firefox 1.07, and it's the same situation: it can't

Hope somebody can help.

Hi,
I have tried to install a COM dll (32 bits) as a service using dcomcnfg on a
64bits OS. When I started the service, I got an error (can't quite remember)
about some dll's not found. I suspect this is related to the system32 folder
and the SysWOW64 folder but I'm not sure. It might also be related to the
fact that I'm using dllhost.exe to host the COM dll and that the dllhost is
64bits while my dll is 32bits. Any ideas?
Please refer me to an appropriate document or if you have any idea please
let me know,

Windows 64 bit activation
Hi there,
Have recently (just over a month ago) bought an AMD 64 bit 3000+ with XP Pro
64 bit preloaded from a reputable site on Ebay. Not knowing anything about 64
bit assumed it was just the latest version of XP. I had problems loading
applications Blue Yonder broadband, HP Deskjet software etc.. and gave up for
a few weeks. When I bootup the pc it now asks for Windows to be activated. On
saying "yes" to this a box appears saying that it is already activated and to
"exit". When exiting the welcome screen logs off everytime. I don't know what
to do now as I cannot get the Product ID in control panel until I can login.
I have the Product key on the Recovery disk supplied. I remember that it says
on the bottom of the desktop that this is an evaluation copy. Does this mean
that I have to purchase another copy of Windows XP or is there some way to
get this version activated? Thanks for any advice Tag: Creative Webcam Instant works great in XP x64 Tag: 19034

A problem with BToes and the x64 driver
I have bought the BToes ver. 365 and I have a winxp x64 system. When I

(Blutonium BCM2035 Bluetooth 2.4 GHz Single chip Transceiver and Microsoft

my cellphone works with this.
I have downloaded the btdongle_XP64bit.zip. When I try to update the
Blutonium BCM2035 Bluetooth 2.4 GHz Single chip Transceiver I get the message
that The specified location does not contain a compatible software driver for
your device. If the location contains a driver, make sure it´s designed to
work with Windows for x64-based systems. And when I try to update the
Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator I get the message that Installing this device
driver is not recommended because Windows cannot verify that it is compatible
with your hardware. If I choose to intall the driver I get a yellow
exclamation mark beside the MSI USB Bluetooth Device in computer management
and with the error This device cannot start. (Code 10).

WIA on X64
Hi,
On X32 I have a complete working WIA set of user mode .dll/.exe and kernel
mode driver for a video capture board.
On X64, I have a working X64 Kernel mode driver, and I have the same 32-bit
user mode WIA components (.dll/.exe).
I install using an X64 INF file under X64 and the kernel mode driver
captures video, but WIA is not working. For example, my device is not listed
under Scanners and Cameras.
I thought I did not need to rewrite the user mode stuff for WIA since there

Could anyone shed light on the above? What would be consequence for my

x64 - WriteFile() - Insufficient system resources exist to complete
I am not sure if this is the right place for this question or not. If not,
kindly direct me to the proper group.
I am having a problem with WriteFile() returning an error. I have whittled
this problem down to a short test program in C which fails under WinXP x64,
but works fine on WinXP x86. I see the problem whether I compile for a win32
or a win64 target. The quick summary is that if I use a size of 33525760 I
can use WriteFile() (after a CreateFile() with the FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING
flag) just fine. If, however I use a file size of 33526272 or larger, then I get:
Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
I am running on a Dell Precision Workstation 670 w/ dual Xeon processors,
2GB RAM and using WinXP x64 SP1.
I have tried increasing the pagefile.sys size since someone suggested that,
but it did not help.

Software Speed Inconsistancies with Windows Professional XP x64
I have been having lots of weird software problems with my 32-bit programs.
Most noteably are the games where the software will run normally for 5-10
seconds and then speed up as if the game is running twice as fast as it
normally should, it will do this for 5-10 seconds and then go back to normal
and repeat.
The videogames I have noticed this on so far are
-Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
-Star Wars: Jedi Knight II
-Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
I also notice the same problem in flash apps that run in my Firefox browser.
The animation will speed up and slow down. Obviously I haven't had extensive
testing with where this orginating from or why it is doing this but believe
me I have made sure that there aren't any other programs running while I use
these programs (unless there is something running that I am not seeing). The
funny thing is sometimes the software will run just fine and then I will hit
a loading transition in a game it will go out of whack; restarting my
computer fixes the problem usually. The system I am running this on was
purchased in June of this year with 1 gig of RAM, an AMD 64bit Dual Core
Processor +4600, and a new ATI graphics card. Could this have something to do
with AMD's dual processor set-up in their chip? Any info on this weird
problem would be much appreciated, thanks. Tag: Creative Webcam Instant works great in XP x64 Tag: 18941
x64 detection
I had been using the existence of the registry key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node
to determine if a remote system is an x64 os. It seems a couple of
applications now create that key if it does not exist on non-x64 systems (at
least Emulex and Broadcom software has done so). I am looking for a more
accurate way (non-WMI) to do this. I have noticed a registry key existed on
a x64 system:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\RESOURCEMAP\Hardware Abstraction Layer\ACPI x64
platform
On a non-x64 system I have:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\RESOURCEMAP\Hardware Abstraction Layer\ACPI
1.0 - APIC platform MP
These are only two cases and I don't know how many others exist. Would it
be safe to assume that if the wow6432Node exists AND the key under Hardware
Abstraction Layer has "x64" in its name that I could be confident in
assuming the machine is an x64 system? If not, is there a (non-WMI) way
that I should use to identify a remote machine as x64. I do not know of a
WMI way either but the requirement I have is that WMI not be required to be
running on the remote machine.

The error happens if I open every MDB file using Access 97.
The error also happens when I try to close MSN Messenger.
Besides that, in IE, the new window doesn't give result if I right click the
hyperlink.(open in a new window).
Another error also happens if I click Find menu (CTRL+F) from Internet
Explorer 6.0:
Error: 35
Incompatible version of the RPC stub.
I find this error has relation with Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express
program. If Outlook program is not running, the invalid page fault error
doesn't happen.
I also have updated schannell.dll
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315209) but the
error still occurs.
Please help me on this RPCRT4.DLL error.
Thanks.

Boot.ini command switches for x64
Could someone list the available switches for boot.ini?
There doesn't appear to be any references to x64 specifically, all links
relate to 32-bit Windows installations.
For example, do such switches as /PAE /3GB etc still perform the same
function as they would in their 32-bit counterparts?
Thanks. Tag: Creative Webcam Instant works great in XP x64 Tag: 18902

Pocket PC active sync issue
Anyone have a pocket PC that they use with their 64?
I have been having issues with active sync 3.8. I can sync, but can't use
the explore option. Making it hard to access files on my CF and SD cards.
If anyone has found a fix for this, I'd appreciate it.
My pocket pc is a Dell AXIM X50v and it sync's fine on my laptop w/ XP Home.
USB connection on both.
* also, my old ASUS pocket pc has the same issue.
I've checked my firewall settings and they should allow active sync file
sharing. Tag: Creative Webcam Instant works great in XP x64 Tag: 18885
Just purchased this, and installed the 64 bit drivers. It works great. :)
