    - Missing during installation System AMD64 3500 A8B-SLI Deluxe lateest bios etc. winxp 32 on partinion drive c winxp 64 drive d My problem is during the intital installation phase, after I have select the Win64 destination partition, the system begins to copy file but will randamly say it cannont find certain .dll, sys files etc on the CD please make sure cd is in drive, retry or skip. I am attempting to install the trial from the microfot website which I burnt to disk. I have re-download and re-burnt the ISO, but even with any one cd, the files the computer connot find sometimes changes. I have tried pointing the files on the CD manually, which I can see, but the cumptuer fails to pick it up. If I chose to skip files the install will complete but one resatrted will ask for these files again. The result is automatic update, ie update, ie64 do not function. Help.     - sounds coming from my speakers I know this is lame but, I seem to have songs coming from my speakers even though nothing is running (mp3s, games, etc). It is very faint but definietly there. Could it be spyware? I have run spybot and adaware but nothing seems to help. Any clues?     - Post-installation problem I just recently installed XP Pro X64 edition, it went through to the end after the partitioning and whatnot, to where it restarts after you put in your cd key and timezones/network information, and after it restarts, it goes to the screen where you can pick the three safe starts, the last settingsthat worked, and the start normally, no matter which I pick, it just restarts and goes back to those 5 options again.     - Upgrade from x32 to x64 Win2k3 I just purchased 2 AMD x64 CPUs with motherboards and will be upgrading a machine that is already running Win2k3 32 bit to Win2k3 64 bit. Are there any online docs or web sites that can outline the things I should look out for as I'm doing the upgrade? My current 32 bit machine is running my domain controller, IIS, exchange server and sql server. The other board and cpu will be used to upgrade a machine running win xp pro 32 to win xp pro 64.     - SATA Drive showing up as a removable device? Installed x64 with no problems on a SATA II drive, only problem is my drive shows up as a removable drive taskbar. The OS went in without needing Raid drivers. Unfortunately there are no x64 Raid drivers for my board that I can find. But my question is, Would it change anything givin that my machine works fine as well as all my software. Its a combination of not liking the idea that my drive shows up as removable, and I use other removable drives and dont want to mistakenly unmount my primary drive.     - Modem woes on x64 I get the "Error 692: Hardware Failure in the Modem" message when I use my dial-up coonection to connect to the Internet. The modem I have is a Conexant winmodem which has drivers built into Windows XP x64. I can confirm that the modem diagnostics run perfectly and reports that the modem is working properly. I have tested this modem on the same machine with 32-bit XP and it works fine. I have noticed the same behaviour in Vista Beta1 64-bit version. Can anyone help?     - Unknown devices I installed the trial version of Windows XP Pro 64 bit, updated the device drivers for my 6800GT, nforce4 chipset, Logitech desktop, LCD monitor and Sound Blaster 2 ZS and installed NOD for Windows 64 bit. But under System there are still two unconfigured devices named "PCI Input Device" and "Unknown device". I tried to find out what are these misterious devices, by comparing it with the System of my Windows XP Pro 32 bit, but can't figure out what these devices can be. Windows and applications work well.     - Far Cry 64 wont run Has anyone else had this problem (or have any suggestions on how to resolve it) I've installed Far Cry and applied but 64bit patched - encountered no errors during any of this. The first time I ran the 64bit version I got a config box with screen sizes etc which I left how it was.     - Question for Charlie Russell Charlie, how does XP Pro SP2 see 4GB of ram on System Properties/General tab versus XP Pro x64? I am beta testing Vista x86 and x64 on my XP Pro x64 box. Vista x86 is only reporting 3GB of ram on the System Properties/General tab while the x64 systems are reporting 4GB.     - files I just ran a reg. scan this morning and it showed that 24,000 files had been scanned. In the report it showed some as good some as erased and some as excellent. Once the scan is complete what should be done with the results. There are several options.delete select and deselect.     - AMD-64 Windows XP x64 crash Dear All Problem:- New Acer Ferrari 4000 laptop hangs (stops responding altogether - CTRL-ALT-DEL does nothing). The O/S is Windows XP 64-bit. Processor AMD Turion 64-bit. Crash normally happens when using Internet Explorer. Normally after using for 15+ minutes. Rarely soon after booting. There are no clues. Nothing logged in event logs. No blue screen. Disabling startup programs through msconfig and disabling antivirus has no effect. Practically no other software installed - the laptop is only a few days old.     - Windows XP x64 won't install I'm running an Asus K8N-E Deluxe (updated bios), 1GB and an Athlon 64 3200+. After the initial part of the installation, and copying of files, the system reboots as usual. Windows XP x64 edition appears for a few seconds with the moving blue dots. Then it disappears and I get a blue screen stop message C00002A. They mention something about a DLL not being verified and the system has been 'shut down'. That's the end, and it doesn't go further.     - Isolated Program Files At my company, we have a custom set of scripts for installing and setting up Windows. We have some Windows XP x64 workstations that we would like to add to this process. With one exception, all of our applications are 32-bit. One problem we have run into is with Program Files. All of our applications are installed with InstallShield and the "-r" and "-s" options. These create .iss files which are then used for unattended installations. The problem is that the hard coded path in these files is "C:\Program Files". Is this going to cause a problem?     - deskPDF Speaking of drivers, and we often are, I've noticed that Adobe still doesn't let you create a PDF from any other program than Acrobat on x64. No Print to PDF function anywhere. That just doesn't get the job done for me, so I've been looking for an alternative Well, I just finished playing with a new version of deskPDF (www.docudesk.com) today. It works just fine in x64 Edition, thank you. And didn't blip on anything I threw at it -- even the overlaid Ink annotations from my Tablet PC. Plus it noticed I didn't have Acrobat reader installed, and offered me up a free ghostwriter based open source reader.     - OVERLY LONG FILE NAMES - as impediment to COPYING FILES I tend to use long file names, so as to identify needed files readily. If the file saves to my C drive in Windows XP Professional, I don't pay particular attention to the length of the file name that I've used. But in trying to COPY large files (e.g., a folder holding tens of thousands of sub-folders, with 2GB of saved data), most copying programs that I've encountered -- on 250 GB Maxtor external hard drives, on 40 GB HP external hard drives, on 2 GB Lexar flash drives -- not only will NOT COPY a file with an overly-long file name, but they also TERMINATE THE ENTIRE COPYING PROCESS INSTANTLY, merely on hitting a single too-long file name. Going into huge saved data files MANUALLY and MANUALLY reducing the length of each long file name is impossible. That's why we have COMPUTERS AND PROGRAMS: to automate important but tedious tasks and processes. I am hoping that someone somewhere has AN AUTOMATIC FILENAME-LENGTH TRUNCATION PROGRAM, or subroutine -- that could be run through my entire C drive prior to attempting to copy large files, or, even better, that could be run ON-THE-FLY in conjunction with any file-copying process, and that could truncate overly-long file names on-the-fly, as they are encountered, to permit the standard file-copying routines or algorithms to proceed without stopping, and even without losing those particular files with overlong names. IS THERE SUCH A FILENAME-LENGTH TRUNCATION PROGRAM? If so, how can I get an operational version, both for XP Professional and for XP Media Center? I'd have thought that this sub-routine would have been the most obvious thing in the world for MICROSOFT itself to have incorporated into Windows.     - Windows XP 64 bit TSM Backup Archive GUI Hello All, Just before I attempted to intall Tivoli Storage Manager onto one of my X64 based systems I thought I'd read the readme. I managed to find the comment below - On Windows XP 64 bit with SP1 applied, the TSM Backup Archive GUI (dsm.exe) will fail to launch, issuing a message "ordinal 6880 could not be located in dynamic link library mfc42u.dll". This is due to a problem with the Microsoft Foundation Class libraries shipped in SP1. Refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base article 814415 for details on this problem and instructions on how to obtain and install the fixed level of mfc42u.dll. This problem is not present in Windows 2003 Server 64 bit. Having trawled through pages galore I can't find anything to do with the Knowledge Base Article 814415.? Has anyone any ideas.?     - Cannot Activate Window x64 I recently successfully installed x64 with an OEM copy I purchased from Newegg.com after many unsuccessful attempts of trying to install appropriate RAID drivers. Now, everytime I click to Activate my Windows, the "Let's Activate Windows" window pops up, but I can't select any of the radio buttons (Yes, let's activate... over the Internet, telephone, etc). Once I try and click any of them, it's either hung or I can't highlight any of the options. Clicking on a radio button option just leaves it sort of highlighted bit the radio button isn't selected so the Next button is never clickable. Just looks like it's hung, though I can close that window. I tried requestion email support, but it says because my copy is OEM and I have to contact the "manufacturer" for support. I bought all my gear from Newegg and other online retailers, so I'd doubt I'd get specific support for this issue from them. Any solutions to this?     - NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM fixmbr fixboot So, It would appear that the NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM files are nonexistent in XP64. or rather, they exist in the root directory but are so hidden, that even the administrator account does not have acces. more to the point, the fixmbr and fixboot commands have been removed from the recovery console, which is entirely distressing. my problem is described in greater detail in my other recent post, "x64 instal error 'Hardware halted'" but in overview, I have a thoroughly corrupted boot sector as a result of a dual-boot attempt in linux. basically GRUB edited my boot sector, but did so onto a disk which was NTFS formated, and has some seirous problems. I have since tried to go into the recovery console to fix it, nly to find that fixboot and fixmbr are no longer valid commands. HOW CAN THIS BE?!?! have I simply missed somehting obivous? did Âµsoft forsake me and leave me stranded without a boot sector? I would greatly love any inpus one can offer.     - x64 instal error "Hardware halted" So, Ive been through hell and back trying to repair my windows boot sector after a failed attempt to dual boot with linux. the problem: I am currently installing a FRESH (read: completely reformatted drive) version of windows parallel to my old one. it is on a second SCSI drive (scsi id 1), and I am doing this to avoid destroying some critical data on the first corrupt drive/version of windows. I have gone through all the steps up to and including reformatting the new drive, installing the master boot record on the new partition, and rebooting the machine. unpon reboot, setup loads once again, and is in the "loading devices" stage, with the green bar at roughly 70% and the message "approximately 34 minutes left," when the entire system fails, and gives a three-line bluescreen saying **hardware malfunction** please contact your hardware manufacturer your system has halted. I can manually reset and reboot, and it continues as such. prior to this, I had a corrupt boot sector on the first drive (SCSI id 0) which i attempted to repair using the windows boot disk. this repair failed, so I have tried to reinstall a parallel copy of windows for the purpose of simply accessing the old disk and recovering data as a last-ditch effort. however, I am being thwarted at every attempt. my system stats are as such: Tyan Thunder K8W motherboard, 2x AMD Opteron 250 2GB dualchannel ecc registered ram (1 GB per processor, dedicated) Adapted Ultra160 SCSI controller (not RAID) 2x 30Gb scsi drives, toshiba, exact model can be found, btu not on me right now. any suggestions? I know that both disks have boot sectors now, and I have tried various things, such as booting from the disk, booing from both drives, it always goes to the windows setup screen regardless, and then hangs in the loading devices step.     - Cannot get 32-bit Internet Explorer to work Hey everybody, it is my 1st time here. I just bought a new motherboard (ECS's nFORCE3-A, socket 754) and an Athlon 64 CPU to go with it. Well I purchased Windows XP x64 and installed it. I have an always on cable connection, and the 64-bit Internet Explorer works like a charm. However, the 32-bit IE always gives me the error "The page cannot be displayed" no matter what I do. I can't do Windows Update at all. Anybody know what I can do to make the 32-bit IE work?     - Life of XP 64 bit Hello, I have been buying upgrades in software and hardware science 1997 when I recieved a desktop PC as a gift in 1997 with Windows 95 as the OS, I don't have to tell your how it didn't have even one meg of memory or so on to let everyone now how low powered it was. That computer started me in the business of learning about how to get stuff to work on my PC and upgrading it. I will always look for the best solutions in proformance concerning my PC's with my cash flow in mind. I like gaming and want to be at the cutting edge of game play with low frame rate, and now hi data transfur when using lan and servers for gaming. My latest PC is a doser for me and I done want to mess it up with a bad dession that I think I have already made one. The PC that I am just about throught building has the following: ATX Case, 510 Watt Turbo Cool SLI Daul PCI Express Power Supply, Mobo is and DFI/NF4 Lanparty nF4 SLI-DR RT, AMD Athlon 64 bit Dual Core 4400+ processor, 2 VGA eVga GF 7800GTX 256MB RAM using SLI link to stack them, 4096GB OCZ DDR Ram PC 3200 400mhz RT, 74 GB WD Raptor SATA 10,000 RPM, Zalman 7000B Heatsink & Fan, Sony 16X48X DVD ROM, and Sony 3.5 Floppy Drive. Not to mention the neon light show. I would thing I hand a pretty good set up for gaming but there seems to be a glitch! The OS I thought I should get was the Windows XP Professional 64 bit. The reason is Linux is for the most part a more stable OS and not to mention its Open Source is quite appealing, but for a gaming rig I don't think so! Aparently their is only one real source for an OS that takes care of a gamers needs and that is Microsoft. So then I considered XP or XP64 bit and it would seem logicial to go with XP64 bit Scence I have a 64 bit daul core processor and it would take full atvantage of the new 64 bit games that are our now and for some time in the future. So I went to find out were to purchase said XP64 bit OS and found it was only buyable as OEM throught PC Manufactors until 2006. Well for $155.00 U.S. I got it. Only to find out that Longhorn os now Vistia and it is the New 64 bit OS for windows and this kind of burns my A$# because I have a good feeling that I shelled out 155.00 for an OS that is going to be put on the back burner because Microsoft want to sell me another OS called Vista next year. I have no less then 7 Computers in my house all with Windows XP of some sort either Home Proffesional, or XP64 bit and had to shell out $1,000.00 so all my computers for my families and my own use. You can see my fustration the expence of the OS from Microsoft. It would be a good business move for microsoft to sale one OS to and household and let that person call microsoft to aquire addional licsiences for $20.00 to $40.00 per each computer insead of the $100.00 or so that is going on now. And in the case of XP64 bit and vistia sell me XP64 bit now and upgrade me at a reduced price when Vistia comes out. Too my question! Does anyone know if XP64 bit is a ligimate OS from Microsoft or just something to rake in money until Vistia is released( How long will I get Support and updated for XP64 Bit). PS did you know that Linux, Amercian Army Software Developers, and the U.S Army have made or are making that game where it will run on a PC without an OS, thats right it finds your hardware and formates the gaming enviroment for your computer abilities and I hear it fast like a super awsume console or one on mega seroids!! The point being is if MS doesn't take sum que from what is happening and meet some reasonable grounds with their conumer base their going to suffer a great lose in business. The commit was made on a webb posting that someone would pick up on what linux was doing and capitalixed on it. Just think I want have to pay a $1,000.00 for the same thing and a reduction in attacks on my computer not to mentions having to reformat my hard drive because my System Registery have accumlated faults. The other thing is practically, Is it feasibale to believe that someone could take this idea and tare down MS so as to bring a change in heart or how they take care of comsumers that have spent thousands on their software that have put them where they are. The answer is yes, it is very possible and highly possible just look at MS, Apple, and linux they all or exanple of turning an idea into a big threat. Personely I realy like MS I just wish they could save me sum cash instead of trying to milk me dry. After All I will still by from you and you still will get my money. After all if you make a good product you succeed by selling quanty and repeat business by satisfied costumers that want more products from a company that delivers with your pocket book in mind.Thanks for any responces to my quiry! connecting with Windows 2k machines) and I'm getting and "RPC" error. No
other specifics. I'm just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this.

It's been reported here before, but no resolution that I'm aware of. Given
that NT4 is no longer a supported product, I suspect you may just be out of
luck, unless you've purchased an extended support contract.
