    - WTF?!? Windows XP x64 bit is Windows Server 2003??? I didn't see a relevant thread to my problem so .... ____________________________________________________________________ My pc's spec: Windows XP Professional (Single User) 64bit Edition AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3700+ 2211.2 2048.4MB RAM 2X NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GS (SLi'd) 500GB HDD ____________________________________________________________________ For some reason all programs that access my pc's specs (Windows update, Windows Media Player Update, EA Easy info, etc (NOT DXDiag.exe though)) believe that i am running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family, Professional Service Pack 1 (Build 3790). This means that i cant download the correct updates, Win Media 11 and about 100 other Windows products that require XP. My copy of XP64 is a fully legit copy (recieved from my university through Microsoft's MDSNAA program) and runs as Win XP64 fine. it is not a major problem (yet) but it is seriously bugging me.     - MISSING AUXILIRY POWER : PLEASE HELP OKay i've had my system for a few years.. I upgraded to a geforce 5700 ultra about 2 years ago and everything work great.. untill now, two years later.. now when i play world of warcraft for like 4+ hours ... it crashes and i get a message saying auxiliry power missing.. to prevent damage to vid card shut down system..     - IE7 and Protected Store in 64-bit Vista Hi folks, I just installed the Vista 64-bit beta (Feb CTP Build 5308) and checked out the services list, looking for things to turn off for a speed increase ;-) But I found that the Protected Storage service is disabled by default. So where does IE7 keep its remembered passwords now? It always used to be encrypted in the Protected Store - you could see it with Secret Explorer but there's nothing in there now.     - Microsoft Remote (eHome Infrared Transceiver) I bought myself a Microsoft Remote for MCE to run of my Windows x64 machine. I am aware that this remote is for Media Center Edition only, but I bought it since it works fine on my friend's Windows XP SP2 laptop, so I figured that it could run on my x64 setup as well. It doesn't install at all. But what is really frustrating is that I found the 64-bit drivers in the AMD64 setup folder (irBus.inf, irBus.sys) for Windows x64 (5.2.3790.1830, as per the file info for driver), but it doesn't install, says the driver isn't 64-bit compatible! Does anybody have any suggestions? Is it possible for me to get a 64-bit driver that works? I really like this remote and want it to function.     - new x64 installation periodically freezes Just recently decided to "upgrade" to Windows Pro x64. My hardware includes: AMD 3500 CPU MSI nForce3 Neo Plat 2 Motherboard Gainward nVidia 6800GT video card Creative Audigy 2 Plat sound card I downloaded all the latest drivers from nVidia and Creative Labs. Problem is that 10-20 minutes after bootup, my system locks up. Well, not completely lock up. Some of my applications still seem to run, and my mouse still moves. I can even close some applications. But I can't access Windows menus, and my browser won't load new web pages.     - Visual studio .Net 2003 Professional Edition I tried to install Visual studio .Net 2003 Professional Edition. Since I was not successful in installing this (it showed up in the start menu with just "Visual C++ remote drbugger" in it). I removed it from the Add/Remove programs. But, It has not gone away from the Start menu. Now I am not able to install Visual studio .Net (any version) at all. If I run the setup. I get a message saying it is installed.     - Problem after installing x64 in dual boot config with 32-bit windo I downloaded the windows xp x64 trial cd and have tried installing it on a different partition from the 32-bit xp to make a dual boot configuration. After getting past the inital setup phase and restarting I get the option of both windows. when I try to boot windows xp x64 all I get is a blank screen. Windows xp 32-bit still boots ok. When I try to download I get this message from Microsoft. I am running the Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. Would have hoped at least Microsoft would get it right.     - Gigabyte i-Ram - anyone using with NF4 board on Win 64? I have a DFI board with the Nvidia NF4 chipset running Win 32 and Win 64 in dual-boot. I installed a Gigabyte i-ram ramdisk and initially had problems in both OS's. However, after updating the chipset drivers for Win 32, it works perfectly with that OS. The problem is with Win 64. It doesn't like the i-ram at all. It causes long boot up times and needs to be coaxed into getting drive letters correct. Once it is running, everything works if it is treated gently. It will tolerate Photoshop page file and windows virtual memory. But if it gets heavy duty work (i.e. - as the cache file for Adobe Bridge) it will crash the OS. When rebooted, the OS changes it from a sata drive to PIO mode, which is useless. Because the same problems were cured in Win 32 by updating the chipset drivers, I assume that it is a driver problem in Win 64 even though I am using the latest 64bit drivers provided by Nvidia. However I can't be sure and I would like to hear from anyone using the i-ram on an NF4 board (AMD or Intel) successfully. Greg Tag: Computer restarts after standby Tag: 32469

    - photo printing problems epson rx600 I have an epson photo rx600 all in one My problem is when I try to print photos with the best photo setting the photos come out with a greenish tint The printer works fine for text and also prints fairly good photos when set at photo in the driver but it doesnt print nearly as good photos as when i used 32 bit xp I have the newest driver and software from epson installed and have uninstalled and reinstall the driver I also get the same results when i print straight out of windows or out of a software program such as kodaks .     - Recent Quicktime and iTunes problems I recently (Saturday) updated Quicktime and iTunes for their recent security update. To cut a long story short, the iTunes install failed while it was installing Quicktime, leaving Quicktime not installed according to Add/remove Programs, but with the directories and registry full of it. Installing the previous version would not work as it said a newer version was already installed. After many hours spent ripping Quicktime out by hand, trying again, and repeating the process, I've found the answer, which I will repeat here for anyone who finds themselves in the same boat. (BTW, this came from one of a number of posts on the Apple discussion board, but for most people, other things seemed to cure it. Maybe x64 is slightly different in this regard.) The problem is KB908531. Yes, *that* one, the one which hosed a number of other things a month or so ago. I tried removing KB908531 (from Add/remove Programs), but it warns about KB911562 and KB912812, so I removed them first, and then KB908531. iTunes and Quicktime then installed and worked. Next I had Microsoft update reapply KB908531. After this iTunes crashed, and Quicktime started then vanished with nothing ever apearing on the screen. I then removed KB908531 again, and now iTunes and Quicktime work again. I will now try reapplying KB911562 and KB912812 without KB908531 and see what happens. Graham.     - Outlook 2003 and XP x64 Hello all - Thanks to the improving driver support for XP x64, I recently made the switch from Wintel 32 bit to AMD X2 x64. My experience generally is great, however I've noticed an odd thing happening with Outlook 2003 (32 bit) I hoping someone can help me with. I connect to my Office with Cached Exchange mode, over https via an Exchange Proxy on the outside of my company's intranet, using Basic Authentication (not NTLM). When I crank up Outlook, I sign into my Exchange Server and all is well. Sometime later however (usually at least an hour), the password dialog pops up again, and despite entering my password fine, authentication fails. Closing Outlook and restarting it fixes the problem (until the authentication box pops up again an hour later) - wash... rinse... repeat... Has anyone seen anything like this, and better still do you know of a fix?     - "System" task hogging CPU I am running XP x64 edition on a quad Opteron machine and have been very pleased with system stability and performance so far. Today I took a look at the system utilization in the task manager, and found out that the "System" task (that's the kernel I suppose) was hogging one of my four CPU's (always the 4th btw, strong affinity). I tried rebooting and shut down all system services and processes that let themselves be shutdown, without any effect. I can not tell what exactly caused this odd behavior, since I do not check resource utilization on a regular basis and a CPU hogging process can go undetected for a while on a MP machine.     - Remote Desktop Connection problems I'm having a problem with Remote Desktop Connection in the 64-bit version of XP. Every time I try to connect, I get the folowing error: "The Terminal Services ActiveX Control (mstscax.dll) does not match the version of the client shell." I build sites using Active Server Pages, so I wanted to test out the pages locally without having to upload them each time. Anyway, I've got IIS and ASP installed and working correctly, except that every time I try to open/access a database, I receive the following error: ADODB.Connection error '800a0e7a' Provider cannot be found.     - Post Installation Hang After successfully installing XP Pro-64 on my machine I ran into some trouble. When the install completes, it deletes the files it used to install like always, and then reboots. So far so good. Except when the machine tries to load windows it ... reboots. I don't even get to the Logo screen. If i let it go it will just loop endlessly rebooting at the exact same place every time. When I try booting in safe mode I get to acpitabl.dat and it reboots again. Logic would dictate that this is where the problem occurs. I hope someone here can give me a fix for this. I'd really hate to go back to 32-bit and toss yet more money in the trash. System Info: AMD Athlon64 3200+ Gigabyte GA-K8NS 2x1024 GeiL DDR400 2x WD 40g SATA drives in Raid 0 (stripping) I'd like to make the point that the installer works fine. It takes my 64-bit raid drivers during the install, and when it boots at the half way point it boots into the drives without issue. Its only when the install is complete that it fails to load.     - "The product Id you entered is not valid" Xp x64 Pro Hi, I've just got a new pc along with xp x64 pro oem, I've just tried installing it several times but when I come to enter the product key it comes up with a message box saying "The product Id you entered is not valid" What does this mean exactly ? I've seen some other posts and it seems the Key and Id are seperate things, I checked the piracy page at microsoft.com to verify my COA was authetic and it is, all above board, but I can't install it for love nor money, any ideas what may be wrong ? am I the only person this has ever happened to ?     - Fun with cookies. I'm finding something very odd since I installed Win 64 XP. Some web sites that I visit tell me I must have cookies enabled to use them. Normaly this would not be a problem. I could just go into Internet options and lower my privacy settings. Unfortunately this doesn't work. My question is: Has Win64 XP changed the way IE deals with cookies?     - IE7 Beta 2 and WMP10 Incompatibilty After the installation of IE7 Beta 2 on my Win XP Pro x64 SP1 machine, WMP10 which was preloaded with the OS is unable to access the internet (even after i keep clicking on "Connect the Player"). I uninstalled IE7 and surprizingly that fixed the problem. WMP 10 was able to access the net normally. Upon re-installation of IE7, WMP 10 is now again unable to access the net.     - Starting up When I start my computer, it goes through the opening sequence to just before the Windows XP screen, then goes back and does it again. I then get a screen asking if I want to "Start Windows Normally" and "Return to Last Good Configuration". I have tried both and it then goes to my desktop very briefly, before stopping again. I then have to use the on/off button to turn it off and then start again, it then goes through the processes correctly. This problem has started since the last set of Windows Updates. I have just installed Windows XP Pro x64 and must say that I really love it
(despite the fact that my scanner does not have 64 bit drivers and working
with ActiveX is a real pain).
The only problem I have so far is that after standby computer restarts. I
have Intel D975XBX motherboard. Does anyone else experience the same behavior?
