There's no magic here. Canon will need to supply drivers for their
equipment -- no one else is going to be able to, I suspect. Yes, using a
different model driver will reduce functionality when mfg's don't provide
consistent functionality and support across all their printer lines. All I
can suggest is to continue to let Canon know just how important it is that
they support their existing products on x64 Edition. But ultimately you need
to realize that Canon is no different from any other software or hardware
company. There are limited resources available to do drivers. They have the
choice of applying those resources to support existing equipment that will
not provide an additional revenue stream for them, or their shiny new
equipment that _will_ provide a revenue stream. Of course, making their
existing and loyal customers unhappy will not do anything to sell their new
equipment either, so it's a balancing act. The more they hear how important
supporting their existing equipment is, the more likely that they will do a
driver for it.

I'm in the same situation here with a Canon Pixma iP6000D. The BJC8000
driver work-around is not the greatest. Canon tech support just says
that X64 is not a supported operating system. At least HP and Epson have
been a little more forthcoming with X64 driver information.
