I recently successfully installed x64 with an OEM copy I purchased from
Newegg.com after many unsuccessful attempts of trying to install appropriate
RAID drivers. Now, everytime I click to Activate my Windows, the "Let's
Activate Windows" window pops up, but I can't select any of the radio buttons
(Yes, let's activate... over the Internet, telephone, etc). Once I try and
click any of them, it's either hung or I can't highlight any of the options.
Clicking on a radio button option just leaves it sort of highlighted bit the
radio button isn't selected so the Next button is never clickable. Just
looks like it's hung, though I can close that window.

I tried requestion email support, but it says because my copy is OEM and I
have to contact the "manufacturer" for support. I bought all my gear from
Newegg and other online retailers, so I'd doubt I'd get specific support for
this issue from them.

Any solutions to this? I'm dreading the answer that I have to reinstall all
over again just to activate.

Try a repair install.

First, make sure you have full connectivity from both 32-bit and 64 bit IE.
If your motherboard is nVidia chipset based, I strongly recommend installing
and then uninstalling the nVidia firewall -- there are known problems with
it. Once you've confirmed the internet connectivity from 32-bit and 64-bit,
then try again.

I have a Shuttle SN25P which is nVidia based. I did thoroughly do my
research on what drivers not to install, etc and I did not install the nVidia
firewall (NAM or whatever it's called) on everyone's recommendation.

Everything on my x64 install seems to work fine, including IE 32 & 64
connectivity (though 64 seems buggy).

You suggested that I should *install* and THEN uninstall the nVidia firewall
or did you mean just don't install it at all?

Thanks for all your responses and help.

Install, then UNinstall. Correct. I can't say it's the cause, but it
wouldn't surprise me one bit. There's certainly nothing inherent in x64
Edition that interferes with activation. I've activated 3 x64 boxes so far.
One MSDN, one Beta Payback, and one TAP OEM version. All worked flawlessly.
And none are nVidia based.

Install and uninstall. Charlies constant advice. As he has repeated many
times, it appears some part of the firewall gets installed even when you
elect not to install it. The only way to clear it out is to install, then
uninstall (from add remove programs)

If I ever get a chance to have a heart to heart with someone from nvidia,
you can just guess what I'll have to say, can't you? :) But I doubt that
will ever happen, they've been noticeably absent from here and other public

Just tried this. Installed NAM and then uninstalled it, but still same
problem. The radio button options of the Activate Windows window are not
selectable and once I try selecting any that window seems to be hung. It's
as if there is some javascript error in play.

I briefly looked at the folder where the activation program lies and it
seems to be a bunch of javascript and html files along with executables....
tracked down the page to be actv.htm. I swear it's as if the onclick
javascript call on the radio buttons is what's causing it to hang.... ughh.

Any other avenues?

I guess my 2nd to last resort is a repair install. If I do a repair install
will I need to hit F6 for my RAID drivers again or will it leave the already
installed RAID drivers from the original install intact? These were a pain
in ass to get right the 1st time. I'd hope a repair install will leave my
configuration and installed software intact.... ie. user's profile
directories that I setup to be on a different partition, etc.

Thanks again for all your help.

A repair install 'should' leave the configuration and software intact.
Can't think of a reason why you would need to F6 your drivers again, but you
should be able to do a restart of the repair if it fails, without losing
anything more.

One additional disturbing occurrence is the number of posts here where they
have installed the WHQL version of the Nvidia drivers only to
have to reinstall prior beta drivers that worked. What's that all about?

Got me. And there's no sign of any nvidia people listening here, so not much
we can do. I don't have any nvidia based machines. I am now rather glad of
it, given what we've seen here.

Ok, I'll own up. This here machine I just built has a nVidia card and it's
running the WHQL x64 drivers just fine without a hitch? I never needed to do
a rollback to the beta drivers....

Yes, no one is complaining about their video cards (or drivers for same, so
far as I know.) OTOH, their mobo chipsets and drivers have left a bit to be
desired.
