I can read data from my DVD+-RW but it's reconized as CD-Rom when I try to
burn on it.
I use Pinnacle instant CD/ DVD 8.
Do I need 64bit driver to burn? if so which one?
Thanks

Probably a problem with the Pinnacle software. Try Nero - I know it works
fine.

I'm told that the latest version of Roxio works too, but I won't use them
any more now that they're owned by Sonic.

What do you have against Sonic ? just curious.
Personally Roxio has been nothing but a big bug
for CD/DVD writing, tweaking Windows just like they
own it.

Their spamming policies (try to get them to stop sending you CRAP), and
their phone home policies, for two. Plus I think their software is buggy,
flakey and annoying. I used Roxio for years, since long before they were
Roxio. Heck, I remember beta testing version 2 I think for Adaptec. So for
me to switch? Tells you how strongly I feel about it.

Adaptec is a very good company, I used SCSI for years, they know
what they are doing.
I remember now, I was disappointed when Roxio bought it from
Adaptec and stopped using it.

Have you checked for a firmware update for your drive?
You may have started using new media that your drive cannot handle without a
firmware update.

Roxio didn't "buy" it, in the usual sense. Adaptec basically spun off their
software business to create Roxio, as I recall. And I continued to use the
software when it was still Roxio. But when they got bought up by Sonic, that
was it for me. I still prefer the Roxio interface to that of Nero, but I'm
learning to live with the Nero one.

Do you mean Adaptec made Roxio ?
I thought Roxio made the registry backup and restore
which Microsoft now using before getting into any thing
else.
I forgot either Adaptec bought Roxio, or Roxio ??

You are correct about the spin-off from Adaptec. Isn't it sad to see good
software fall into the hands of companies that tend to screw up everything
they touch. ie Sygate Firewall, DriveImage, PartitionMagic into Symantec
and the aforementioned Roxio into Sonic.

My memory is (and John Barnes seems to confirm it) that Roxio was simply a
spin-off of the (non-driver) software business from Adaptec. I know that
some people who were inside Adaptec moved to Roxio when it formed. Because I
lost my contacts for free hardware. ;)
